Mistaken Information!

Most of the time I think I am a very lucky person. And one of the things that makes me feel lucky is my job. And as part of my job, I get to see the ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ of many people and this has taught me many things, one of which is that everybody’s ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ is pretty similar. Everyone worries about the same things. And most everybody (except those in the know :)) sees others as far more confident and self-assured than they really are.

Comparing yourself with others is useful if it helps you to realize the kind of life you want and the type of person you want to be and so helps you to aspire to more. But if it serves as a way to beat yourself up then it is not only damaging it is also based on mistaken information !

So when you catch yourself doing it, stop and remind yourself… this person may seem to have it all together, but I only see the outside. And remember this quote attributed to Plato.

Be Kind, because everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

And then turn the focus and kindness back on yourself and ask yourself how you can respond to your own ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ in a way that is helpful and constructive for you!
